We are very sad to announce that Prof. Jim Dooge passed away on Friday 20th August at age 88. Jim Dooge is a former Irish minister of foreign affairs, but for us he has been an outstanding Hydrologist. He has been President of IAHS from 1975 to 1979. He has been also a Bureau member of IUGG (1983-1987) and the President of ICSU. It's a great loss that all hydrologists share. It is with deep regret that we have to announce the sudden death of Professor Igor A. Shiklomanov, the Director of the State Hydrological Institute. He passed away on August 22, 2010, in his 72nd year, in St. Petersburg. From 1981 until the very last days he was the head of the State Hydrological Institute, one of the oldest scientific hydrological institutions in Russia and the world. Professor Shiklomanov was well-known to hydrologists of many countries. He was recognized as the world's foremost authority on hydrology and water resources, human impact on river runoff and the dynamics of water use and availability on regional and global scales. We mourn the death of our dear colleague, Alfred Becker, who passed away on 18 August, only hours after his last visit to the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK) as a retired guest-scientist. Alfred was a staff member of PIK nearly from the beginning of the Insitute and the present international position of PIK in water sciences owes much to Alfred's long-term efforts. Alfred has been active in IAHS since early 1970s, attending symposia and workshops, collaborating with Journal editors, and holding offices, such as Vice-President of ICASVAR in 1995-1999.
